Cabinet of Curiosities (After Cornelis de Baellieur)
Cabinet of Curiosities (after Cornelis de Baellieur) draws reference from 17th century oil painting Cabinet of Curiosities by Cornelis de Baellieur (1607–1671), a piece in the Lobkowicz Collections at Nelahozeves castle. Baellieur’s image rings with a dusty baroque silence following untold years of travel and collection required to amass the subjects of the piece. In sharp contrast, A Cabinet of Curiosities (after Cornelis de Baeilleur) bursts with bright colour and my own motion captured dance. The cabinet, now toppled, lays draped in a digitally painted slogan T-shirt that reads 'Optimism as Cultural Rebellion 2004-2021', while spinning paintings, in this case my own "Energy Portal" NFTs and other elements from past works, accompany my pirouetting Cryptovoxels avatar. Are the 'Curiosities' of this piece the "Energy Portals" themselves, NFTs that capture significant digital friendships and identities, cemented on Twitter? They are also artworks that have been freed at last from their stifling walls, to fly free about the room, and then perhaps through this new art universe?
The Energy Portals shown and the 'Optimism as Cultural Rebellion 2004-2021" T-shirt are currently part of the collections of and in some cases depict: Claire Silver, weseeclearly, Reo, Pixel Pete, Jake Jake Jake, Ebe Oke & Lady Phe0nix. Other NFT works depicted include my genesis NFT 'Dreaming' (collected by rudy) and 'Effervescence' (collected by craving_carmen).
This work was selected to be displayed in Lobkowicz Palace in Prague Castle from October 11 to 16, 2021 at the Non-Fungible Castle exhibition, alongside the original painting by Cornelis de Bailleur, with other physical and digital works connected to The Lobkowicz Collections.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this piece will support the restoration of physical pieces in The Lobkowicz Collections.
